British World War Cemetery
British World War Cemetery or the Memorial is one of the finest and well maintained monuments by Commonwealth War Graves Commission in Pune and in India that reminds us of the Imperial Past and also the Legacy of the Two Great Wars fought. Kirkee war Cemetery was created to receive Second World War graves from the western and central parts of India where their permanent maintenance could not be assured. The cemetery contains 1,668 Commonwealth burials of the Second World War. The KIRKEE MEMORIAL stands within the cemetery and commemorates more than 1,800 servicemen who died in India during the First World War, who were buried in civil and cantonment cemeteries in India and Pakistan where their graves could no longer be properly maintained. This total includes the names of 639 servicemen whose remains were brought from Bombay (Sewri) Cemetery for re-interment here in 1960. On the same memorial are commemorated almost 200 East and West...

ReplyDeleteThanks for the appreciation!
DeleteA lovely shot...Which spot is this exactly? Reminds me of my college days and the innumerable trips I had to Kausali, Barog and Shimla...
ReplyDeleteHi Saru!
DeleteI know its a great place and nearest hill station from Delhi... I go here often. I clicked it when coming back from Kausali.... for exact location I can say when you move down and meet the road where Kausali and Shimla road intersects this spot is 2 km down the road from the intersection point (Don't take my words for granted I am bad at calculations) ;-)
I can relate to your words when you said "Reminds me of my college days and the innumerable trips". I have been a traveller since my school days & hills are always my attraction.
Thanks for liking it!
